It’s my very first interview and I’m very excited.
It's so great to have you here today!
Book four in her Maker's Song series "Etched in Bone" was released on February 22, 2011One lucky commenter will have a chance to win one of Adrian's books winners’ choice.
Details are listed at the end of the post.
Mysteriousbooks: Where is your favorite spot to read?
Adrian: Right now, I only have time to read when I go to bed, but normally I like to curl up in a corner of the sofa with my cats snoozing beside me. But I’ll read anywhere I can. I love books.
Mysteriousbooks: Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Adrian: Still writing, of course, but hopefully a familiar name on the bestseller lists. LOL. Writing, traveling, connecting with friends and fans. I’d love to visit Denmark.
Mysteriousbooks: What do you like best writing in the morning or in the evening?
Adrian: Both times work well for me, actually. I love writing in the mornings when fading dream images still feel my mind and my subconscious is more in control. In the afternoons, I can mull over what I’ve written and see if any unexpected twists or sudden insights ignite—which I then promptly go back and add.
Mysteriousbooks: What is your favorite part of a book to write?
Adrian: That would be the entire first draft, when the story is pouring out in a white-hot rush through your fingertips and onto the screen/page brimming with life and passion and excitement.
Mysteriousbooks: If you meet a zombie what's the first thing you will do?
Adrian: Ah, great question! And since I don’t carry a gun with me, there’s only one action I would take: Run. Flee. Of course, that works only if they are slow-moving, shuffling zombies, it they are sprinters, I might be in trouble. Hmmm. I wonder if a person can get a concealed weapon license for a handgun/shotgun in case of zombie attack?
Mysteriousbooks: Why do you think that urban fantasy has become so popular in books and movies?
Adrian: I think people love the paranormal and the supernatural, the idea that other things exist beyond ourselves. I know I do. I also think it’s a chance to imagine what you would do in a world where vampires, fallen angels, were-creatures, ghosts, and other preternatural beings are a part of the norm (some good, some not so much), a chance even to see ourselves through the eyes of those who aren’t.
Mysteriousbooks: Can you describe The Maker's Song series in 1-3 sentences?
Adrian: No. LOL. Okay, okay, I’ll be a sport and try. Dante and Heather’s story—a complex tapestry of betrayal, violence, government conspiracies, love and loss, redemption and sacrifice, a fast-paced, breath-stealing tale of vampires, mortals, and fallen angels and unstoppable destiny. Wow. Okay. One long sentence, but . . .
Mysteriousbooks: Mention three words about Etched In Bone?
Adrian: Dante’s destiny unfolds . . .
Mysteriousbooks: If you had to choose one thing you like the most from the cover of Etched In Bone, what would it be?
Adrian: Even though it’s nice to have Dante on the cover, my favorite part is Heather’s active stance with the gun lifted in both hands. Lover and protector.
Mysteriousbooks: What is your favorite thing when you have a new book released?
Adrian: Having a copy of the finished book in my hand. I love that. Plus, knowing that readers will soon be holding copies in their hands (book or e-reader) and plunging once more into a world with characters I hope they enjoy and love.
Thanks so much for having me on Mysteriousbooks, Mette! It’s been a pleasure meeting you and your readers.
You can read a chapter from the book that started it all. Here’s a link to a sample chapter of A Rush of Wings.
With Book Four, Etched in Bone, Dante faces his destiny and searches for a way to accept it on his own terms. To make his life, his own, at long last, and with Heather at his side. The former FBI agent is more than his partner and lover, she is also his anchor, his beacon, guiding him back from the edge of madness when his shattered past rises up and swallows him. But in Heather’s human family awaits an unexpected enemy. One who could force Dante to choose his darkest destiny—as the Great Destroyer.

Etched in Bone is also a featured read for March on BN.com’s Paranormal and Urban Fantasy Book Club – which I’m very excited about.
I’ve also included a link to the first chapter of Black Dust Mambo, the first book in my Hoodoo series which takes place in the Louisiana bayous. The second book, Black Heart Loa will be out July 2011.
